Memory of Last Vacation

The video work Memory of the Last Vacation tells a story about the extreme situation our planet finds itself in. It was recorded with a smartphone during a family holiday to the Zugspitze glacier in the Alps. The most popular tool, that we all carry with us, was used to record images of tourists strolling about the mountain’s summit with their smartphones, taking photos of a place where the enormity of our planet’s destruction can be experienced firsthand and feel the horror that comes from the scale of it.

The last unmelted bit of this once mighty glacier is protected by a special cooling sarcophagus. The people walking around it are completely unmoved by the presence of this tomb—a symbol of the death of the planet. In a figurative sense, the title of the work refers to humanity’s last carefree moments before the impending environmental disaster.
