Memory of the garden
Memory of the Garden is a three-channel video installation that reflects on perception, memory, and the symbolic ordering of nature. Drawing inspiration from medieval monastic gardens—carefully designed to convey spiritual and cosmological meaning—the work explores the garden as both a physical and cognitive space.
Footage filmed in the Sensual Garden at Bolestraszyce is combined with a narrative comparing the interior of the eye to a garden shaped by sunlight, involved in a continuous process of saving and erasing. Like a medieval garden, the eye is presented as a structured space—its layout influenced by light, memory, and vision. The installation delves into the mechanics of seeing, the layering of afterimages, and the distortions that arise when remnants of previous images overlap the present one.
Perception, like a garden or a painting, is shown as a carefully ordered act—one that carries the traces of what came before.
